The Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) (7303) Award has been designed as the appropriate introductory qualification for those seeking a ‘stepping stone’ to qualifications that entitle them to teach in either an ‘Associate Teacher’ or ‘Full Teacher’ role* in the Lifelong Learning Sector in England. It confers the newly required ‘threshold license to teach’ for all new teachers in the Further Education (FE) Sector.Course content
The 7303 Award comprises one unit, made-up of five sections, entitled ‘Preparing to teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector’ (PTLLS), which is based on the teaching/training cycle.
The five sections cover candidates’ understanding of:
own role, responsibilities and boundaries of role in relation to teaching
appropriate teaching and learning approaches in the specialist area
session planning skills and demonstration of those skills
how to deliver inclusive sessions which motivate learners
the use of different assessment methods and the need for record keeping
It has a value of six credits, consisting of 30 contact and 30 non-contact hours (formerly guided learning hours), which are assessed by candidates completing two assignments, one theory and one practical, both of which are broken down into smaller, prescriptive assignment tasks.
When will I receive my results?
Results will be forwarded on as soon as they are received at the college. Please note that certificates, where awarded, can take up to 4 months to be received at the college before forwarding on to learners.Assessment
Candidates, along with their tutor, can choose to do either the Level 3 or the Level 4 PTLLS Award, but candidates do not need to do both. The level of the qualification is determined by the assessment criteria and assignments, rather than the learning outcomes or indicative content. This means, in practical terms, that the delivery of the qualification is the same for levels 3 and 4; with the level achieved derived from the assessment undertaken and the result achieved by the candidate.Progression
Candidates may carry forward the 6 credits achieved through the PTLLS Award into both CTLLS and DTLLS, as it forms a mandatory introductory unit for both qualifications
