The course serves as an introduction into the main topics of international tourism economics and politics. It shows the peculiarities of tourism compared to other sectors of the economy. It deals with the variables which determine the expenditures of visitors, the growth and the productivity problem in a sector with personalized services, the main resources of tourism and their sustainable management, the dynamics of the global tourism market and its impacts on the development of countries and the principles of tourism policy in a market economy. Problems of world tourism will be discussed and exercises in class will support the learning process.
