The Instrument Rating allows the pilot to fly under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR), which is required for flights such as through cloud cover. It is the next step for a lot of pilots who wish to further a career in aviation. It is usually done in conjunction with the Commercial Pilot’s License.

- Private Pilot’s License
- At least 50 hours of cross country flying
- Class 2 Medical certificate with Instrument Rating allowances
At least 200 hours of ground theory will have to be completed. However, if the applicant is a holder of a frozen ATPL, these hours are not required as the material would have been covered already, as long as the IR is completed by not more than 3 years after the last exam of the ATPL.
The flight training can be done in one of three ways:
- In the case of a single-engine IR (A), 50 hours of instruction time are required. 35 of these hours can be conducted in our FNPT II simulator.
- In the case of a multi-engine IR (A), 55 hours of instruction time are required. 40 of these hours can be conducted in our FNPT II simulator
- In the case of someone who holds a single-engine IR (A), and a multi-engine type or class rating, wishing to obtain a multi-engine IR for the first time will need to conduct 5 hours of instruction time. 3 of these hours can be conducted in our FNPT II simulator.
