----------------------------------

Syracuse is known as the greatest classical Greek city outside of Athens, full of history and art, expressing all the variety and all the cultural richness of Sicily.

Today Syracuse, with its 200.000 inhabitants, is divided into two parts: the modern part in expansion, and the historic island centre of Syracuse, Ortigia. The old centre immediately reveals the charm of a city that has witnessed almost three thousand years of history and the significant expressions of the most important Mediterranean civilizations.

Along Ortigia's outer walls you will find outdoor cafès and local restaurants, a vibrant open market with endless stalls selling Mediterranean fish, fruits and vegetables, under the background of the omnipresent sea. Streets typically end at the sea wall, and in many places you can descend the stairs onto ancient stones, where locals and visitors gather to swim in the Ionic Mediterranean. Walking through the historical centre you will meet the people of Siracusa and will be able to communicate with them using Italian language. Linguaviva offers you a unique possibility in Siracusa to attend an Italian language course focusing particularly on oral communication.

Learning Italian language in Sicily, where locals and visitors gather to swim in the Ionic Mediterranean.
