Managerial Economics III

Content

The Course is focused on efficiency, productivity and benchmarking. The goal is to provide quantitative methods to evaluate performance in order to provide incentives and improve profitability. Moreover, to known efficiency assessment when regulating firms. The Course presents Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) a quantitative method which allows to evaluate firms' efficiency and to understand how to increase it. Practical lectures using R software will be provided.

Didactics

The lectures are based on the textbook. There will be Power Point support slides containing the structure and keywords of each lecture. During classes active learning of quantitative methods with R will be implemented. Students should come with their Notebooks in order to be involved in these active learning sessions. Students will also write a project based on quantitative analysis. The last class will be dedicated to a discussion of students’ projects.

Evaluation

The evaluation of the course is composed of a grade for a DEA project that students have to hand in by Midnight Sunday 13th December 2015, accounting for 50% of the final grade, and a grade for the written exam at the end of the semester, accounting for 50% of the final grade. The exam paper is given by 1 open questions on a subjects presented during the classes.
