Course overview

This honours degree provides opportunities to explore the wider aspects of educational provision in the UK and elsewhere, while focusing particularly on the education of children.

Year one core modules:

  • Families, Schools and the Formation of Identity
  • An Introduction to Education, Equality and Identity

Year two core modules:

  • International and Comparative Perspectives in Education

  • Exploring the Curriculum
  • An Introduction to Educational Practice
  • Education and Society 1: Critical Approaches to Understanding the English Education System

Year three core modules:

  • Contemporary Issues
  • Undergraduate Major Project
  • Inclusive Practice in Early Childhood
  • Children's Rights: National and International Contexts

Year one optional modules (at least one of the following):

  • Sociology of Childhood
  • Early Childhood Pedagogy and Play

Assessment will take place through a variety of methods including: essays and extended prose; presentations; placement proposals and reports; portfolios of evidence and reflective journals; pre-placement contracts; participation in web-discourse; and reflective analyses and evaluations.
