This is a one year full-time degree programme designed for practitioners with a Diploma in Occupational Therapy who wish to engage in continuing professional development and enhance their current qualification to an honours degree award. It is particularly designed for both international students wishing to study abroad and practitioners returning to practice.WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE?

The course comprises the following modules:
The Reflective Practitioner
This module will explore critical issues related to practice. Theoretical concepts pertinent to the identified experiences will provide a basis for reflection and critical thinking. Throughout the module, a key focus will be on the enhancement of practice through reflection and critical exploration of issues identified from the students’ unique experience.
Critical Reasoning in Practice
This module builds upon the breadth of theory underpinning professional practice and utilises the Occupational Therapy process to encourage students to take a three-dimensional perspective of Occupational Therapy service delivery in relation to a range of Occupational Therapy contexts. Students will critically explore different theoretical and reasoning frameworks in order to analyse, justify and articulate their practice to different stakeholders, including service users, carers and other professionals.
This module explores the concepts and practice of research and evidence based practice within health and social care context. The module aims to develop theoretical and practical research skills that will underpin the development of an evidence-based approach to health and social care. The module will develop data analysis skills and explore ethical issues relevant to an area of research or EBP study.
Research and Evidence-based Practice Project
This module enables students to acquire knowledge in a chosen area of health and social care through a process of independent enquiry and research. The student will have the opportunity to devise, design and execute an appropriate method of enquiry and analyse, in depth, results appropriate to health and social care practice. Students will develop an enhanced understanding of the research process and its relationship to professional practice through the production of a project or research report and paper presentation.
Advancing Practice: Professional Perspectives
This module will facilitate the development of students’ professional practice through evaluation of the multi faceted nature of health and ill health. The impact on well being and occupational behaviour will be explored in relation to competing environmental influences (political, cultural and professional) underpinning theoretical perspectives. Students will critically appraise the contribution of different professional groups and stakeholders, in relation to a specific negotiated area of practice. This will enable students to develop a deeper understanding of professional knowledge, skills and attitudes in the specific practice context and the unique contribution of Occupational Therapy.
One core option module
For example Hand Therapy, Work Rehabilitation, Neurology, Advanced Mental Health Practice.
The course is organised as a series of 6 modules (20 credits each) delivered over the academic year from October to June. It is a full time course with lectures and seminars and independent study programmed throughout the week (Monday to Friday) over 2 x 15 week sessions.
Each module requires 200 hours of study effort incorporating direct teaching, peer group work, personal reading and research and assignment production."
