Sul corso: I am Annika, a 3rd year student from Germany. I started this study to become a social entrepreneur. I am convinced that there needs to be a change in mindset when it comes to common business practices. A shift to an economy which takes the earth and its humans into account. At Windesheim Honours College I am acquiring the knowledge and skills needed to work towards this development. Next semester, I will do my elective in Helsinki, Finland. I am curious what I will learn there and am looking forward to exploring the country and meeting new people from all over the world.

Sul corso: What I like about the lecturers here at Windesheim is that they are very engaging. They are very connected to you as a student and they know you by name. They want to help you succeed, they really care about your success. We do a lot of project work, and that can be difficult sometimes. Getting everyone’s opinion, to coordinate, and planning with everyone is not always the easiest tasks. But at the same time: working in groups is necessary. I think it’s really good to do it while you are in school, because realistically, when you go into the business world, you are going to be working in groups all the time. I would definitely recommend my friends to come to Windesheim. I think that going to a smaller city in Europe, instead of going to the main cities like Amsterdam or Berlin, gives you a very European experience. No one here is trying to be anything other than they already are, and I really like that. It’s a very genuine feel.

Laura
15/12/2020
Sul corso: I am Laura, 4th year student. During the 4 years that I have been studying at Windesheim, I have gained a lot of practical experience. Together with fellow students I have been working on 10 different projects for 10 different organisations, varying from one of the top-3 Dutch banks, a bike producer, a cookie factory and an amusement park. Working on real life problems or questions for real life companies, made the projects very meaningful for me: it was not just a fake assignment. And I learned how to use the theory in practice. Besides the projects, we had a lot of guest lectures of different organisations, and company visits, to amongst others Scania (trucks) and Yakult (milk drink). And last but not least I did an internship during one semester at a company, and I’m currently doing my thesis within an organisation. I’m almost finished, and I really feel ready to enter the labour market. Windesheim offered me the right mixture of theory and practical experience in the past four years.

Sul corso: I am Nina, 4th year student from Germany. At Windesheim I mostly developed myself on a personal level. I could shape my values and found new interests. I changed my future plans for after Windesheim multiple times. Now I know I would like to work in the food industry. I have a passion for baking and would like to work on new, more sustainable and fair trade business models for bakeries. In general people eat a lot of sweets. And as soon certain ingredients are used in pastries people don’t care about where the ingredients come from or how they were produced.

Sul corso: Due to my great interest in human rights I was already able to work together on a project proposal, funded by Oxfam, that had the aim to educate Papua New Guinea’s population about the natural causes of HIV/AIDS. Next to my interest in human rights and my idea to make this world a better place, I am interested in travelling and trying out many new things and ideas. As an example, I heard a lot about food waste, so I wanted to find out if it would be possible for me to survive a week on left-overs/food waste. This experiment turned out to last for more than four months, with me eating more healthily than ever possible as a student with a small budget. I am very thankful for my study programme and if I could choose a study again I would choose mine. It helps me not only to develop important skills to change the world, but also to develop myself. At Windesheim Honours College we are like a big family and that is the best part of it.

Luca
15/12/2020
Sul corso: My name is Luca. I am a fourth-year student Global Project and Change Management. My dream is to improve the world by changing the way businesses act and think and helping them transform traditional business models. I decided to do my internship at Kallari, a chocolate cooperative that is owned by 900 indigenous families in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Kallari disrupts the traditional supply chain by cutting out the middle man in the chocolate process. By following the principle of learning by doing, I hoped to come closer to my goal. My responsibility was to develop a new eco-tourism project that would provide indigenous families with a new source of income. When I did the research for my project, I often needed to take a canoe to reach families. I needed to translate from English to Spanish to Kichwa, an indigenous language, to be able to communicate with the families. It was challenging, but a great adventure.

Julia

Sul corso: This is my third year as a student at WHC. What can I say? I’m glad I chose this programme, because it allows me to combine studying with travelling and learning different languages, lessons about life, and my role in our world. Besides being taught the basics of Project Management, Business, and Research, we learn how to become good team workers and how to apply what we've learnt in theory to different social and cultural contexts in practice. After having achieved a basic knowledge of the material, we can choose to do internships and electives abroad. In my opinion, this is the best part of the programme, because it allows us to develop in the topics we are personally interested in and also contributes to growing as a person by being ‘thrown in at the deep end’; into a new environment with new people, out of the familiar WHC community.

Sul corso: My name is Suzanne, a happy third-year student of Global Project and Change Management at Windesheim Honours College. It took me a while to get here: the last years of high school orienting, a gap year and some more orienting. But I chose this study because I want to give meaning to the things I do. I went to Ghana for my internship and when I arrived in Accra I was amazed by the men, women and children carrying huge bowls and boxes around their heads. They sell anything by the roadside. When I told the taxi driver that I love, but mostly respect what these people are doing, he responded surprised: 'So what do you have where you are from?'. 'Supermarkets, stores, restaurants, the occasional drive-through.' 'But what if you are hungry or thirsty NOW?!' 'You'll have to go somewhere.' 'That's stupid.' The Ghanaian culture is funny, but straightforward. That straightforwardness also showed in other ways.

Sul corso: I am Lucy, 4th year student. The lecturers of International Business are really supportive during your studies. They want to help you with assignments as well as with finding internships. Thanks to their practical experience in combination with their academic knowledge they truly make the subjects interesting. You can notice as a student that the lecturers are enthusiastic about their field of work, thanks to the combination of their background at several companies within the business sector in the past and their didactical skills as a teacher. Their support made me the professional I am today: self-conscious and confident to enter the labour market.

Sul corso: I am Paul, German/Amercian 1st year student. I was born in America, then I moved to Australia with my family and a few years ago I moved to Germany. I found out about the program because I randomly went to a fair in Hamburg and walked up to the Windesheim stall. The recruiter asked what I was interested in. I said I was looking to work in non-profit and development. He said that Windesheim was perfect for me then.I think I was attracted to the program because overall I didn’t see anything I didn’t like. During my gap year, I took the time to find out what I liked. I travelled for 11 months. I taught English in Vietnam, backpacked through Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. Got a job in Australia. Spent my holiday in Fiji. Did voluntary work in New Zealand. Then travelled to Chile and Ecuador to keep up my Spanish and finally I visited my sister in New York. And now I’m here.

Sul corso: I am Marie, 2nd year student from Germany. I love studying at Windesheim because we don’t only learn about all the problems in the world but also how to solve them. Through the skills and the knowledge that we acquire here we will be able to set up our own projects or companies and make this world a better place. I really enjoy that in all the classes and guest lectures we get to know how people are already changing the world. It inspires me to see how many great people from all over the world are already active in making this world more sustainable.Through the freedom and the individual support that we get it is possible that everyone pursues their own interests and strengths at the same time as being part of a community that fights together for the same goal. “May your choices reflect your hopes and not your fears! - Nelson Mandela

Sul corso: 4th year student Lisa is currently doing her elective in Rabat, Morocco. „I started at Windesheim Honours College because I wanted to learn how to use the profession of project management to create value for people and communities. Like everyone at Windesheim Honours College, I want to contribute to a just, equal and sustainable world. In our studies we have the freedom to work on topics we are passionate about and learn how to understand and approach them in a global context. One of the most important things I learned is that good team work is at the centre of working in projects on global challenges. Therefore, I value the most that a big part of our programme is about personal development. We get the time and space to reflect on ourselves, our roles in a team and ultimately in society. Getting to yourself and being comfortable with who you are is the first step in being able to help others!

David
14/12/2020
Sul corso: I am David, 4th year student from Germany. I came to Windesheim believing that the world needs a fundamental change. Our way of living and doing business does not only destroy our livelihoods but harms people every day. Therefore I looked for a study that doesn’t ignore this reality but has instead a focus on solving the underlying problems. At Windesheim Honours College I found like-minded people that share the same vision of a better world and a lot of them became friends over the time. The focus on personal development and the freedom to do your own projects was very valuable for me. After almost 4 years I have learned so much about both changing the world and myself. Therefore I am very grateful. Now I look forward to make use of these skills even more in the future. Be it politics, an NGO or a sustainable enterprise - I am sure there is a place in this world where I can contribute my part.

Hrisiyana
13/12/2020
Sul corso: My name is Hrisiyana and I am a 1st year student at Windesheim. I have chosen International Business for several reasons. The main one is that I am from Bulgaria, which makes me an international student. Later in my business career path I want to work abroad or with foreign companies. To me, the programme at Windesheim is the best of all similar programmes in the Netherlands. One of the things that really grabbed me, was the opportunity to learn another language. I chose Dutch, because it is important to me to learn and speak the language of the country where I am currently living and will probably be working after I graduate. There is also something really unique about our university. In addition to the main subjects like marketing and sales, finance, supply chain management and human resources, there is learning and development. This helps you to become your better self and later a better professional. I love the personal approach that is offered, with small classes of 12 to 15 students and project group around 3 or 4. The coaches are really helpful and approachable. They are ready to answer any question and help you with your assignments, which is great because they all have a professional background and experience in real companies. There is also the opportunity to be a more independent student and to manage your own pace of work and choose what to do and when to do it, while still observing the deadlines and guidelines from the coaches. The campus itself is really nice and modern. IB is in building X, which is entirely made from glass panels inside and out. It makes the classroom and the learning environment really calm and refreshing. There are a lot of spaces where you can study and work on projects, which I love to visit. In addition, Zwolle itself is a lovely town with beautiful architecture and interesting places to go to. I am really looking forward to my second year with the internship I need to do for a company of my choice and of course the study abroad, for which I can choose from over 100 universities all around the world.

Sul corso: In this programme you are truly being prepared to work in an international environment. Besides the theory you also learn about how to implement the theory into practice. We also learn soft skills, pitching skills, how to think critically, how to work in groups and about intercultural awareness. These skills are really valuable for your future career. The programme gives you a lot of opportunities and space to choose what you would like to do, and shape your own study career. During the programme you work a lot in groups on real life assignments for companies. The lecturers at Windesheim are extremely open-minded and really approachable. I would describe them to be more our mentors and coaches instead of our teachers. Because the classes are really small (usually 15 students) you can really follow your own, personalized learning pathway. Our campus has a lot of open spaces where you can work, chill with your friends our eat your lunch. We have 2 really good canteens and great sports facilities. Dutch language classes are mandatory for international students. This is really great because it helps me to understand my surrounding and it’s easier to communicate in daily life situations like in the supermarket or in the city. Furthermore it’s easier when you do your internship or a project with a company in the Netherlands. If I had to choose again, I would definitely go the same way, because the programme is really flexible so I can choose in which direction I would like to have my future career

Sul corso: My name is Quincy. I am a third year student and doing the Value Creator at the moment. For the Value creator my group and I choose the topic of gender equality, LGBTQ+ rights and feminism. In my hometown and during my youth I saw a lot of sexism and that feminism isn’t something that is taken seriously and rather seen as a joke. I was really interested in this and therefore I felt a bit out of place. I think everyday sexism is still happening a lot and I think this is a big problem because I want everybody to have equal chances, to feel safe, be happy and to be able to be themselves.

Sul corso: I am Marit, German 3rd year student. Windesheim gives me the opportunity to develop myself and to get an insight into various topics. Even though I still don’t know exactly in what work field I see myself in a few years, I am aware of what challenges our society is facing today. I am grateful that Windesheim is giving its students the feeling of being able to make a change and that I have learned to love educating myself and to always stay curious and critical at the same time. In two weeks from now, I will fly to Rwanda to find out whether there is a significant problem in undernourishment of infants. I am so thankful to have the chance to get to know our world a little bit better and that this is included in my study program. How great is that?
