Economics of Transport and Mobility

The simple fact that tourism implies traveling over some distance makes that the analysis of transport and mobility is essential for understanding tourism. The course will therefore introduce and explain transport demand, supply and the functioning of transport markets in a context of tourism. After an introduction to the "Get There" phase of the production of the tourism experience, including long and short haul transportation services, the transport system (participating industries and markets) will be discussed. The course moves then to the simultaneous choices tourists make with respect to transport mode and destination. The course ends with an outlook on the future of transport and tourism in a sustainability perspective.
