The context of this program
Finance is being dramatically transformed. Vikram Pandit, former CEO of Citigroup, and Antony Jenkins, former CEO of Barclays, respectively predict that 30% or 50% of banking jobs may disappear in the next few years because of disruptive technology developments and new business models.
A tsunami is running over the finance industry: as highlighted by the 2017 PwC Global Fintech Report, 88% of incumbents feel their business at risk.
However, Fintech is about creating new opportunities and redefining paradigms in finance, as shown by a number initiatives promoted by institutions such as European Central Bank, European Commission, Federal Reserve Bank, Financial Stability Board and Monetary Authority of Singapore. The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, in its paper “Implications of fintech developments for banks and bank supervisors” (February 2018), underlined that Fintech speed of diffusion and pace of adoption is arguably higher than the ones of any other wave of innovation of the previous decades. In other words, the impact Fintech will have on the financial system will be unparalleled.
Just like the banking system is being turned upside down, don’t expect education to remain the same. In this new fast changing tech world, it is clear that the skills needed to succeed in finance are changing too.
The Master in Fintech & Innovation (MFI) is designed to provide students and young professionals with the right skillset and international mindset to lead and contribute to the Fintech revolution.
The programme is jointly developed by LUMSA Master School and Fintech EduLab.
