Overview
This is a two year programme of study leading to a foundation degree for those working in the early years sector in day nurseries, nursery classes and schools and the term; 'early years' is defined as Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1.
This programme appeals to existing managers and professionals who wish to increase their level of qualifications and develop their CPD opportunities as well as teaching assistants, learning support assistants, other agency workers who wish to develop their skills and qualifications.
The programme also attracts candidates who wish to diversify and change career focus, sometimes after being involved in early years through their own children. It is also increasingly popular with students leaving sixth-forms or colleges, or for those who regard the foundation degree followed by a university BA Hons (Top-up) year at as an alternative to attending university.
The teaching team is supportive and classes are small and person-centred. Tutorials are offered regularly to coach students for success. Further support is also provided by a mentor in the professional setting and a liaison officer who will visit settings to discuss aspects of practice and provide evidence for the CPD aspect of the programme.
The programme is provided by the University of Greenwich and taught at North Kent College.
