Ceramica: Raku Nudo - Naked Raku

Questo corso è per principianti e per quelle persone che non conoscono il RAKU NUDO e vogliono approfondire questa affascinante tecnica. Durante il corso i corsisti apprederanno come è possibile con pochi e semplici materiali e fumo avere un ampia gamma di segni personalizzati sulla superficie dell'oggetto, disegni, immagini, possono essere sviluppati nei propri pezzi. Dopo una introduzione illustrata del RAKU NUDO ed esempi pratici delle cotture, i primi giorni i corsisti faranno semplici forme in argilla per i vari test, sperimentando varie e differenti superfici, trattate, lasciando le superfici ruvide, imprimendo texture, levigandole, e applicando le terre sigillate. Nel restante dei giorni si faranno anche varie riserve (ingobbi) usando terre sigillate, smalti, cristalline in maniera tale da controllare il disegno dell'affumicamento con test di cottura raku.

This workshop is designed for people with little or no experience of raku. In addition to having fun, during the week people will be shown how by the use of only a few simple materials and smoke a wide and beautiful range of individual surface marks, patterns and images can be developed for their ceramics. By the end of the workshop students should have acquired confidence and individuality in a variety of naked raku processes.

Following an introductory illustrated talk and firing demonstration, the first couple of days will involve students making simple ceramic test forms which will be used initially to experiment with different surface treatments on the raw clay including texturing, burnishing, polishing and the use of slip.

During the remainder of the course students will be introduced to various resist/reserve processes involving the use of slips and glazes which will be used to control smoke patterns on the test pieces during their Raku firings. To help in this people will experience simple slip and glaze formulation and processing. During the workshop students will be encouraged to use drawing and visual research to inform their surface designs.Also students will be encouraged to fire and handle kilns and carbonisation processes during their own raku firings.

The workshop will culminate with participants decorating and firing a larger and more individual piece to illustrate their development and choice of processes. A final question and answer session and pointers to the future will conclude the workshop.
