Care of the Person with Chronic Kidney Disease

If you're a registered nurse working in specialist renal clinical areas, our Level 6 module will give you the opportunity to explore and develop your knowledge and skills to meet the needs of people with renal failure, their families and carers.

The module will address the needs of the people with chronic kidney disease and those receiving Peritoneal Dialysis and Haemodialysis. It will consider in particular their right to dignity, respect and evidence-based specialist care. In order to receive care that is effective and of high quality, renal patients and their families are dependent on effective teamwork, communication and clinical decision making. We'll look at the role and contribution of the specialist nurse in relation to the multidisciplinary team.

Our module is taught through a series of lectures, tutorials and group work, all of which you'll need to attend. The module will be assessed theoretically through a client care analysis. Practice assessment will be undertaken in clinical practice by an experienced mentor who is a suitably qualified and experienced practitioner. You'll need to demonstrate achievement of criteria in the practice assessment document to pass the module. You must undertake a discussion with your manager to discuss your readiness to commence this module, and have obtained requisite support to access relevant clinical experiences that will enable achievement of the practice assessment criteria.
