Gain the knowledge and skills to recognise when your clients may need additional support and how to act on your assessment
As a healthcare support worker, you're an integral part of the community workforce, with a large proportion of your day spent working in your clients homes, dealing with complex issues, on your own and with no direct supervision.
This workshop will give you the knowledge and skills to recognise when your clients may need additional, professional healthcare support and how to act on this. You'll gain an improved awareness of the basic signs and symptoms of both local and systemic infections.
You'll better understand your own code of conduct, accountability and responsibility to your patients care and appreciate the importance of appropriate documentation.
Content- Holistic (whole patient) approach to the fundamentals of care, including food and nutrition and skin care (standards 1, 3 & 5 NMTS).
- "How do you know I am unwell?" Different indicators and behaviours to suggest something is wrong and recognising pain and distress, through non-verbal communication.
- Vital signs - what to look for.
- Effective communication - recognising the barriers to communication and understanding the principles of confidentiality (standard 3).
- Valuing people (standard 7).
- Recognising infection and preventing the spread of infection (standard 10).
- Responsibilities of a healthcare support worker
Accountability, encompassing the new code of conduct and what it means (standards 2 & 5). - What to do when things aren't right Knowing how to report it who to report it to, including health & safety issues.
- Understand the basic principles of record keeping (standards 3, 8 & 9).
