One written and one oral exam.

There are 2 parts to the written exam:
Part A. "Introduction to Academic Language Skills" (Prof.ssa Katherine Ackerley):
1. Short answer and multiple choice questions based on course content
2. Written text based on the features of one of the registers studied in the course
Part B. "General English" (Collaboratori ed esperti linguistici)
1. Lexicogrammatical test with multiple choice/fill-in-the-blank items
2. Listening report (candidates write a text based on an audio file)

Oral exam:
Spoken interaction with a fellow student on a topic selected from those dealt with in the General English part of the course.

Part A. “Introduction to Academic Language Skills” (II semester – Prof.ssa Katherine Ackerley)
The course aims to do the following:
develop students’ ability to describe and use the Noun Phrase in English;
give students the notions and tools necessary to recognise and use various registers and genres;
help students develop their written skills, in particular formal report writing;
develop students' knowledge of the fundamentals of English pronunciation and to develop awareness of their own pronunciation.
During the course, the students will also have the opportunity to produce written texts and audio files using Moodle and other appropriate software. There will also be a focus on use of a monolingual learner dictionary and of linguistic corpora for lexicogrammatical searches.

Part B. "General English" (semesters I and II - Collaboratori ed Esperti Linguistici).
In the classroom there will be a focus on general language skills at B2+ level. Students will use online resources to develop their listening comprehension and writing skills. Use will be made of Moodle and University Language Centre resources.
