Programma

If you work in a mental health or learning disability setting, our distance learning course is ideal. Understand how to engage more effectively with your service users and their carers. Learn about a wide range of evidence-based contemporary therapeutic interventions while focusing your study on your own area of practice.

You can also study this module as part of our Mental Health (Top-Up), designed for working mental health professionals wanting to develop their skills and knowledge.

Full description

Over the course of 13 weeks, you’ll critically review the theory and practice of interventions relevant to your own area of practice, so that what you learn is meaningful and transferable to your work. You’ll be able to choose the focus of your study to suit both your practice and your own learning needs.

Any intervention should be timely, appropriate and responsive. In this way, service users (and their carers) can derive the maximum benefit, and can integrate the outcomes into their own inclusion and participation. Therefore, we’ll look at a wide range of interventions, ranging from prevention to treatment and continuing development – but always centred around care, compassion, dignity and respect.

You’ll analyse how socially inclusive practice influences participation and the outcomes of interventions. You’ll go on to look at how evidence-based practice can assist with clinical decision-making, as well as perceptions and measures of intervention outcomes. This will generate a critical understanding of the role and function of interventions and the rationales for them, and will provide you with vital considerations for your future practice.

Assessment is by way of a 6,000-word patchwork text. You'll work on this throughout the course, so there's no essay to write at the end.

As you're studying by distance learning, there aren't set study dates and you don’t need to come onto our campuses. However, you are expected to set aside at least one day each week for study, and to follow the module structure rigorously. You can do this from anywhere with an internet connection.
