Course overview

The LLB (Hons) Law is a Qualifying Law Degree, allowing successful graduates to progress directly to the vocational stage of training for the profession of solicitor or barrister.

It will be possible (subject to validation) for students studying particular option modules to also receive a Diploma from the National Association of Paralegals. You will then graduate with two awards: LLB (Hons) and Diploma in Paralegal Practice. This additional qualification will give you the skills you need to make you more attractive in practice as a Paralegal if, for example, you did not wish to carry on the the Legal Practice Course (LPC) or Bar Vocational Course (BVC). Equally, if you do wish to carry on to take these courses, the Diploma will give you a head start in your studies by introducing you to a number of the skills you will need and develop on the LPC or BVC.

It is planned (subject to validation) to introduce an accelerated 2 year LLB (Hons) course and a 4 year course, integrating both LLB (Hons) and the Legal Practice Course.

You will be guided and supported throughout your studies by our highly experienced lecturing staff.

Teaching and Learning Experience

Teaching methods used include lectures, tutorials, workshops, guest speakers, case studies, seminar presentations, mooting (debating points of law before a judge), group work and projects.

You will be appointed a personal tutor with whom you can discuss course-related or personal matters. You can also discuss any problems with our experienced student advisers.

Assessment

Methods of assessment include examinations, essays, problem-solving exercises, case studies, presentations, mooting, online discussions, group work and final-year Major Project (dissertation).
