Programma
Major multi-level spatial problems, also known as wicked problems, require multidisciplinary solutions and broad thinking. The Master’s programme Spatial Engineering prepares you to address these problems by combining technical and socio-economic knowledge with a strong basis of spatial data analysis and modelling. Think, for example, of the distribution of limited natural resources, of water, energy or food security, of catastrophic consequences of natural and man-made disasters, or of the unplanned development of mega cities.
Year 1
In the first year of the Master’s Spatial Engineering, you will work on three case study projects to develop (in a scientific way) sustainable interventions to help solve the problem. The three case study projects are formulated in a context of policy goals: resilience, sustainability and legitimacy, and increase in wickedness.

Year 2
Before you start your Master's research, we organize an international module which includes a trip along a series of institutes and agencies in Europe, to see how they deal with wicked problems in their own countries. After writing your own master’s thesis research proposal, you continue your academic and research phase throughout part of the second year. The Master's Spatial Engineering ends with an internship.
Career opportunities
With a degree in Spatial Engineering you will have plenty of job opportunities as a spatial engineer or project manager in consultancy, or with the government, NGOs or international organizations.
You could get involved in water management – for instance, designing flood risk strategies in rapidly growing cities – developing renewable energy, environmental remote sensing and many other exciting fields.
