Mentorship Preparation - 15 Credits

Our five-day blended learning course develops the skills you need to support and assess learners in practice. If you're a registered healthcare professional, it will help you to meet your professional body's requirements for mentorship/practice educator, and to enter the local register of mentors.

Our mentorship preparation modules have been designed to develop future mentors who will be able to offer skilled, compassionate and effective support for learners in the workplace, underpinned by the value base of their profession and those enshrined in the NHS Constitution (Department of Health, 2013).

This 15-credit module is designed for healthcare professionals who want to develop, explore and apply the principles of learning, teaching and assessing students in practice settings. While you're studying, you'll be supported in your workplace by a registered healthcare professional (mentor) who is currently live on the local mentor register. We use a blended learning approach, so you'll have three taught days and two days of online study.

You'll be expected to complete and submit a practice document, with supporting evidence, from your mentor which should reflect the application of theoretical concepts to the practice setting. You'll also write a 2,000-word reflective assignment on your role as a mentor, which gives you 15 academic credits at level 6.

This module can be undertaken as part of a BSc pathway or as a standalone module.
