Sports Journalism - FdA

This two-year foundation degree course will train you to work as a specialist sports journalist and to write for a variety of media, in print, online and over the airwaves.

You’ll be joining one of the country’s oldest and best-known journalism schools. Experienced journalists will teach you the trade on specialist course modules covering topics such as news writing, sports reporting, sub-editing, page layout, shorthand, radio and online reporting.

There’s a strong practical content, including projects and workshops with fellow students and visits to venues where you can cover and report on live events. Thanks to our industry connections we regularly welcome professional sports journalists here as guest speakers or tutors. We also use our contacts to develop work experience and volunteering opportunities for our students, for example on newspapers or magazines.

You’ll study the history and development of sports journalism, as well as the ethical and legal issues that you’ll need to consider, more than ever, as a working journalist – and you’ll learn how to develop contacts and business within the industry.

Additionally you’ll get to explore and practise specialisms such as photojournalism and multimedia journalism. We’ve excellent facilities on-site to help you, including industry-standard video cameras and editing software, multimedia studios and radio equipment.

Anglia Ruskin University validates the course and you’ll complete six course modules per year. Learning and teaching methods include lectures, seminars, tutorials, workshops, enquiry-based learning, project work and work experience.
