This course gives an introduction into relevant topics in the fields of labor, public and development economics. The students will understand how the institutional design of labor market institutions (e.g. minimum wages, the unemployment insurance, or tax setting policies) affects labor demand and supply. The course also discusses the role of education in human capital formation and subsequent labor market outcomes, in the context of developing and developed countries. The question, which institutions can help to achieve equal opportunities, will deserve special attention and will be examined based on recent research articles.
