Adult Dysphagia Training for Healthcare Professionals

Enhance your management of patients with swallowing issues, prevent problems such as aspiration pneumonia and learn to provide the right nutrition for recovery.

As a healthcare professional who comes into day-to-day contact with patients with potential swallowing problems, you want to enhance your understanding and increase the level of care you provide. Our course will give you:

• a sound understanding of normal anatomy and physiology in relation to the swallowing process
• the ability to carry out competent swallowing status and nutritional needs assessments
• the skills to manage uncomplicated problems
• the knowledge you need to identify complicated swallowing problems.

You'll be assessed as part of this course. You'll produce a 1,500-word critical analysis of the assessment and management of a patient with swallowing difficulties. We'll also look at practice competencies, including two swallowing assessments.

While the theory components are suitable to all professions, full academic credit is only available when you complete the practice section with a qualified speech and language therapist. For this, you must submit a signed supplementary information form, giving the name of a qualified therapist from your local area who'll support your clinical supervision and practice assessment.
