Skills are a key factor in the economic development of countries and the prosperity of nations. Countries, regions and sectors therefore require skills-matching mechanisms, instruments and policies to reduce the gap between the supply and demand for skills in the labour market, increase the employability of the workforce and reduce skills shortages. Where macro-economic policy-making is concerned, sectoral approaches strengthen good practices in skills development by putting the emphasis on the skill-sets needed in different economic sectors, rather than taking a generic approach. This being the case, the International Training Centre of the ILO (ITCILO), in full collaboration with the Skills Branch of the International Labour Organization, is proud to offer the second online edition of its Sectoral Approaches to Skills Development course. The training will capitalize on the ITCILO's long experience in organizing capacity-building activities focused on skills development generally and sectoral skills development in particular. The main objective of the course is to "help participants better understand the characteristics, methodologies, institutional arrangements, skills governance mechanisms, and sectoral skills development modalities needed for identifying labour market imbalances in terms of skills development at a sectoral level, in addition to recognizing the current and future skills needed at a sectoral level in a broader macro-economic policy framework."
