This study program has exceeded my expectations. The range of topics and subjects that are given make it easier for you to experience the different approaches or fields in which you might want to specialise on or end up working on in your future career. Furthermore, the teaching staff is very friendly, and they motivate you to study. Since we have small project groups and classes, the approach is very personal, which is something I find very nice. Finally, the mix of theoretical and applied knowledge, through laboratory work and fieldwork, makes it more enjoyable to learn about a specific subject as well as having a better understanding of it after matching theory and practice.

Avans è un ottimo istituto superiore, moderno, avanzato, prestigioso e molto serio.
A livello organizzativo si incontrano talvolta alcune imprecisioni comunicative, sicuramente anche dovute alla situazione Covid.
Gli insegnanti sono sempre disponibili e cercano sempre di trovare tempo per gli studenti che richiedono la loro attenzione.

Programma
The programme:
Through internationally oriented projects, training and courses, you will learn about subjects including sustainable energy techniques, bio-based waste management, biomimetics, clean-up technologies, cost-benefit analysis, environmental policy and law. You can specialise by choosing 1 of 2 study tracks, enabling you to pursue a career in sustainable energy & resources recovery or water management, climate & ecosystems. You will graduate with a Bachelor of Sciences (BSc) degree.
Year1:
The first year focuses on basic skills. Like maths, chemistry, physics and biology. And on language and (intercultural) communication skills. We also introduce the main environmental issues.

Year 2
In the second year, you do advanced coursework and work on complex projects. New environmental areas of interest are introduced, like biodiversity, bio-based economy and climate change. In quarter 3 you also choose your track: Sustainable Energy & Resource Recovery or Water management, Ecology & Climate Change.

Year 3
In the third year, you do a work placement and take the track-specific specialisation. The work placement can vary, from working for an environmental consultancy to doing research at an institute.

Year 4
In your fourth year, you can take the minor Biobased Technology & Business Development, Environmental Geography or a minor in another programme within Avans or our partner universities. During the second half of the year, you complete your graduation assignment within a company, agency or organisation.
