Programma
Explore what is meant by ‘high dependency’ and ‘intensive care’ in the newborn setting. Learn to respond to the holistic needs of infants and their families. Understand the nursing and medical interventions available, and learn about best practice. Advance your professional skills – and your career prospects.
You’ll be a registered nurse or registered midwife working in a high-dependency or intensive neonatal care setting, looking to extend your professional skills in this specialist area of practice.
This course uses a blend of theory and practice to help you explore the concepts of high dependency and intensive care. You’ll learn to respond to the holistic needs of infants and their families, and to think critically about the provision of high dependency and intensive neonatal care.
You’ll examine contemporary evidence, analyse nursing and medical interventions in high dependency and intensive care settings, and ascertain appropriateness, effectiveness and best practice in given situations. You’ll develop your ability to reflect on your own practice in the light of supporting evidence and national health policy directives.
Our course includes 12 study days split between our campuses in Cambridge and Chelmsford. You'll also need access to an appropriate clinical environment and a practice mentor; please talk to our Module Tutor (see 'Contact details') and the clinical manager before starting this course.
Assessment is by way of a 4,000-word essay, a two-hour exam, and successful completion of practice competencies.
Newborn life-support option
You can choose to include this option in your course. It involves an additional cost, and will be delivered on an extra date. Please contact our CPD Admissions Team for more details.
