WILD ANIMAL HUSBANDRY, MANAGEMENT AND WELFARE

The course lectures will cover:
1. Introduction to zoos and aquariums: purpose, history, role in conservation, organization and management, legislation and ethics (1 credit).
2. Exhibit design and its influence on captive animal’s behaviour, health, welfare and people safety (1 Credit).
3. Management of captive animal’s nutrition, feeding and reproduction (1 Credit)
4. Captive and wild animal’s handling and transport (1 credit)
5. In-situ conservation, reintroductions and principles of wildlife management (1 credit)
6. Introduction to management and cost accounting, Cost accumulation for inventory valuation and profit measurement, Information for decision-making and for planning, control and performance measurement, Cost management and strategic management accounting, The application of quantitative methods to management accounting (2 Credits).

Practical activities (1 credit) will cover:
• evaluation of pros and cons of different enclosure designs;
• precautions to be taken in animal, feed and enclosure management;
• problem solving;
