Develop, use and manage built assets effectively and gain an understanding of the multi-disciplinary and multi-professional nature of facilities management in property development and asset management. Learn how to advise clients on a range of issues such as strategic facilities management, space configuration of buildings, valuation, investment appraisal, marketing and management issues.

Gain a broad understanding of the management processes and practices involved in the design and delivery of support services at the building level. You'll develop knowledge and application skills to ensure the efficient and sustainable operation of buildings.

Profilo del corso

You'll develop the strategic level leadership skills needed to ensure facilities managers play a senior role in developing and implementing sustainable strategies in the built environment.

You'll develop your own understanding of the strategic challenges facing facilities and property managers as well as gaining the operational skills to deliver immediate benefit to a client organisation. You'll also develop valuable life-long learning skills to develop your career.

You'll gain the skills to enter the specialist areas of both facilities management and property management. Our course addresses the needs of the property industry in the UK and internationally, where there is an increasing demand for qualified facilities managers and property managers to work in a wide range of professional, commercial and public sector organisations engaged in the development, use and management of built assets.

We know that buildings and facilities are increasingly being seen as a strategic resource that organisations need to better understand and manage if they are to remain competitive and deliver sustainable business solutions to society.

Our course is built on a strong management theme you’ll develop a range of facilities and property management aspects and techniques. You’ll practically apply your skills to a broad range of management activities and positions across a wide range of organisations and industries.

  • Management TheoryThis module is designed to facilitate each student's development of their own individual knowledge base and approach to management. Its aim is to get students to develop their own particular approach to management by establishing a solid foundation of management knowledge and integrating this with their own values, experiences and goals, to provide the basis for a life-long development of their management skills.
  • Management PracticeThis Module recognises the importance of people to the success of organisations and that organisational performance is largely dependent on the performance of its human resources, which in turn is determined by the quality and effectiveness of their management.
  • Project Management SystemsThis module establishes the framework for the management of projects and develops a comprehensive understanding of the role and functions of the project manager throughout the project life-cycle, from inception to completion, together with the diverse range of resources and activities that the project manager must plan, co-ordinate and control to achieve a successful project.
  • Strategic Facilities ManagementThis module will provide a sound understanding of the theory and practice of facility management. It introduces the tools and processes that are essential to assess business demand; evaluate options; and assess the performance of building to support primary business function.
  • Facilities Service ManagementThis module will provide a sound understanding of the theories, principles and practices applied to both in-house and outsourced service provision. It introduces the tools and processes that are essential to assess service need; evaluate options; and assess the performance of services to support primary business function. The module considers the legal aspects of procuring facilities services and the role of benchmarks and key performance indicators to measure service delivery.
  • Property Asset ManagementThis module will provide a sound understanding of the theories, principles and practices used to manage buildings in a sustainable way. It is designed to provide a critical insight into the strategic importance of built assets to the success of private and public sector organisations and to critically appraise alternative approaches to built asset management (fabric and services), including the role of maintenance and refurbishment in the building life cycle.
  • Property Investment and AppraisalThis Module is designed to provide a thorough understanding of property development and investment appraisal. It provides the student with an opportunity to examine the application of contemporary growth – explicit market valuation techniques to a variety of practical situations. Conventional market valuation approaches are also explored and analysis made of the advantages and disadvantages compared with growth-explicit alternatives.
  • Research Design and MethodsGain an in-depth understanding of the theories and methods of research and research design and develop a theoretical and practical foundation in research for your major project/dissertation. You’ll get an understanding of a range of approaches to research, including quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods, together with an understanding of a number of specific research methods. You’ll develop your knowledge of research design in order to critically consider the design for your research project, including preparing your proposal and considering ethics and ethical issues.
  • Major ProjectThis module supports students in the preparation and submission of a Master's stage project, dissertation or artefact. The Module provides the opportunity for students to select and explore in-depth, a topic that is of interest and relevant to their course in which they can develop a significant level of expertise.
Assessment

We'll assess you with a variety of learning and assessment methods, including written assessments, both formative and summative, including essays, position papers, opinions, analysis', presentation and reports and a portfolio. You may also take some exams.
