    Corso post laurea

Practice–based and underpinned by theory, our course is essential for staff wishing to offer their students the very best of teaching excellence. You’ll be taught by an expert team of active researchers in higher education.

If you’re new to teaching in higher education or already teach higher education courses in the further education environment, our course is for you. Accredited against the Higher Education Academy Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF), our PG Cert encourages participants to reflect upon their own practice, learn from sharing practice with others, and develop a deep understanding of educational models framing Higher Education in contemporary university settings.

Regardless of whether you study it face-to-face or online, our highly interactive course exposes you to the very best teaching practice. Our qualified and experienced team offer face-to-face sessions at both our Chelmsford and Cambridge campuses; if you need the flexibility to study when and where suits you, our distance learning option will give you all the skills you need to succeed in this environment. Each module of our course has a compulsory teaching observation.

You’ll have access to our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), which gives you a wide range of teaching and learning material as well as hosting interactive opportunities for you to engage with other students. You’ll be encouraged to try out new approaches to your own practice, as well as share your existing practice with others.

Before you start your course you’ll be invited to a face-to-face induction at our Chelmsford or Cambridge campus, giving you the opportunity to get to know the course, your fellow students and the campus better. If you’re studying by distance learning you’re more than welcome to come to an induction.

Profilo del corso

With the needs of the 21st century classroom constantly changing, our course will provide you with the transferable skills to communicate, research and apply relevant knowledge to teaching practice. Our course offers Fellowship status of the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF), alongside the tools and skills to give you the potential to progress to Senior and Principal Fellowship awards in the future.

The PG Cert modules can contribute towards an MA Education, and ultimately towards Professional Doctorate/PhD study.

Candidates must already be employed in an appropriate higher educational context and must have regular access to students so that they can be observed whilst teaching them. A first degree is desirable and a high standard of written English is essential. Our published entry requirements are a guide only and our decision will be based on your overall suitability for the course as well as whether you meet the minimum entry requirements.

Work placements

Our compulsory teaching observations mean you do need to be working in a teaching position.

Links with industry and professional recognition

Our course is accredited by the Higher Education Academy, and when you graduate you’ll be able to work in Higher Education Institutions as well as have adaptable skills for other teaching and learning contexts.

Programma

Core modules
  • Enhancing Learning and Teaching Through Reflective PracticeThis module is designed to introduce practitioners in various higher education contexts to the knowledge and skills necessary to plan, deliver, and evaluate learning. It will encourage you to use effective models of reflective practice to develop and enhance your own teaching practices in the light of relevant theoretical models of learning and your own experience as a learner and teacher.
  • Developing Assessment for LearningDeveloping assessment for learning is crucial to the development of practitioners in post compulsory education - irrespective of the context of learning and/or the extent of practice. This module is designed to help you to become critically aware of the range of strategies available to you and of the need to promote assessment strategies which are reliable, fair and valid.
Please note that you will need to complete all of the above core modules. This course does not have any optional modules. Modules are subject to change.Assessment

Assessment for the Enhancing Learning and Teaching through Reflective Practice module is through the completion of a patchwork text (a series of separate pieces of work that are ‘sewn’ together at the end to link to the structure of the module) and reflective commentary; it includes the observation of your teaching.

The Developing Assessment for Learning module is based on a negotiated format which you can discuss with your tutor and also includes a reflective commentary. You could choose to carry out a patchwork text, group project or an essay, depending on your individual strengths and the methods you work best with.

We use online submission and feedback for our final assessments. With students across the sector increasingly expected to use online plagiarism detection software packages, this offers you an insight into both ‘sides’ of the tool, as well as the opportunity to try out the system from a ‘student’ perspective.
