The Master in Democratic Governance is a unique programme designed to meet the needs of students, professionals and experts who want to specialise in the field of democratic governance and human rights with a focus on the Arab world, but also gain the practical experience needed to build or improve their career/research activities.
The Master in Democratic Governance is:
An intensive advanced course in the field of democracy and human rights;
Professional Master’s Degree (60 ECTS) from Ca’ Foscari University in cooperation with the other partner Universities;
An intensive learning combined with an action and policy-oriented approach;
Comprised of two semesters: one in Venice and the other in a participating University;
A supervised Master’s thesis in one of the partner universities;
The foundation for a successful career on national, international, and non-governmental levels;

Academic ability and background: Applicants are required to hold a university degree of a high standard in a field relevant to democracy and human rights of minimum 180 ECTS or equivalent (Bachelor/General Degree).
Additional studies and relevant experience in the area of human rights are an asset.
Language competence: fluency in English is mandatory and knowledge of Arabic and/or French is an asset.

Professor
Barbara De Poli teaches Contemporary History of Islamic Countries, Political Thought of Islamic Countries and Cultural Geography of the Mena Region at Ca' Foscari University She spent one year of field research in Egypt and seven years in Morocco where she has been member of the scientific board the Center Jacques Berque (2002-2003) and attached researcher at Hassan II University of Casablanca (2003-4). In 2011-12 she taught African History and Contemporary History of Arab Countries at the School for Governance and Economy of Rabat.

It also aims to give practical experience needed for building up their professional career and academic activities.
Barbara De Poli teaches Contemporary History of Islamic Countries, Political Thought of Islamic Countries and Cultural Geography of the Mena Region at Ca' Foscari University.
