The curriculum, structured over two years, prepares students on the fundamental disciplines of the oil and mining industry. The specific scientific subjects of petroleum and mining engineering initially provide the concepts and tools to understand the technical and engineering disciplines that are taught later on.

During the first year courses deal with the chemical and physical properties of the rocks, the petrophysical properties of mineralized rocks, the fundamentals of petroleum geology and ore deposit geology, the mechanical behavior of rocks, the risk analysis theory, the raw material engineering, the techniques for geophysical exploration of hydrocarbon reservoirs and ore deposits. Following, skills concerning the analysis and quantitative revision of information and data are acquired. These skills are also consolidated through targeted calculation exercises to solve problems of practical interest. The second year is specifically devoted to a technical and engineering education. Besides discussing methods and strategies for reservoirs and deposits exploitation, practical exercises play a key role for the development of an interdisciplinary approach.

Such broad spectrum of technical preparation provides all the necessary tools to either study topics of interest or specialize in a narrower field during their working life. The preparatory subjects provide useful knowledge in the areas of resource economics, environmental reclaim of polluted sites, risk and safety analysis of plants and processes.

Profilo del corso

The professional figures that the degree program aims to train are engineers able to operate profitably and immediately in the oil and mining sectors, which are characterized by a high technical and technological level; because of the interdisciplinary approach and the international scale such sectors require specialists to be able to operate in very different social and work environments and to hone their skills in communication and in building relationships.
This Master's degree program is held entirely in English.

characterize hydrocarbon deposits (oilfields) both in terms of quantity of hydrocarbons in place and in terms of production capacity, and will identify the best oil and/or natural gas production strategies on the basis of technical feasibility, but also economic and environmental sustainability (specialization in Petroleum Engineering)
characterize ore deposits to estimate reserves and identify the best strategies for mining exploitation not only based on technical feasibility but also on economic and environmental sustainability (specialization in Mining Engineering).

Programma

Graduates from this program will possess the knowledge necessary to carry out professional activities in various fields, including contributing to activities such as the technical and economic feasibility study of an exploratory or development project of an oilfield or an ore deposit, the management and definition of development strategies of non-renewable resources, including the design and organization of the facilities and equipment needed for production, the risk analysis and safety management in the prevention and emergency phases.

Graduates from this program have a professional level, defined by its typical orientations, that makes them eligible to perform highly technical tasks within oil or mining companies or service companies, which acquire and compile data and develop projects on behalf of the oil and mining companies, or alternatively in public administrations regulating the energy sector and raw material issues.
