EGoS is a Master’s degree completely taught in English to train the future leading class who will be working in European and global politics, administration and communication.

Students acquire knowledges, competences, methods and tools to understand political, social and cultural processes, to develop and manage projects at the European and international levels. They learn to effectively intervene in multi-actor and multi-level settings through innovative, critical and interdisciplinary approaches and the cross-fertilization of ideas and practices.

They also develop global perspectives on political and institutional scenarios, communication and technological developments, coupled with solid roots in the analysis of political, historical, social and economic contexts in multiple countries, and the planning of specific strategies for intervention.

Students will benefit from an international learning environment in Padova, but also abroad exploiting the network of more than 40 university partners for the Erasmus+ program, bilateral agreements and other structured partnerships.

Double degree with the University of Kraków; double degree with the University of Helsinki, Vienna and Heidelberg are being developed.

The Course aims at transferring knowledge and developing skills to access leading positions such as:

policy analysts, public managers (at all levels), project developers and managers, policy evaluators;
directors of international offices in public, private and academic institutions;
experts on the interplay of science, technology and society, to support digital policy elaboration, ICT application to societal challenges, Internet governance;
gender experts for inclusive and responsive governance in policy planning, project managements, technological development;
managers of virtual exchanges for multi-sited team working towards community building, cultural conflict transformations, critical approaches to safety and sustainability;
academic and non- academic researchers.

You will be trained to work within professional contexts that require specialized professionals able to design and manage innovative and forward looking strategies in multi-level environments, such as: public administrations, European institutions, international organizations, research centers, universities, consultancy firms, interest representation groups at various levels of government. The skills acquired will also be useful in areas such as development cooperation, humanitarian assistance, cultural diversity and integration programmes, gender-sensitive cultural and policy interventions, analysis and planning for social change.

In those contexts, you will be able to elaborate projects, manage and coordinate activities linked to decision-making, policy design, implementation and monitoring to critically support strategic paths of internationalization and innovation.

Students may come from a number of disciplinary fields, including: political science, international relations and diplomacy; international economics, management, cooperation and development; intercultural communication, media and cultural studies; international law; linguistics; political philosophy; geography; psychology; sociology; history.

Programma

Course structure

The programme is articulated around a common track, providing multidisciplinary knowledge and competences, and two thematic tracks.

Courses offered in the common track (1st year) cover the fields of history of ideas, political philosophy, political science, law, economics, sociology and applied linguistics.

The two thematic tracks (2nd year) maintain a common pedagogic vision, but are dedicated, respectively, to European and Global policies: the European Policiestrack is devoted to the multidisciplinary analysis of the main policy and governance challenges that the European Union is facing, whereas the Global Communication Policies track focuses on how governance, communication and digital transformations intersect on emerging policy and societal challenges.

  • European and Global Economics (6 credits)
  • EU and International Law (6 credits)
  • Terrorism and Security in International History (9 credits)
  • Governing Transnational Processes (12 credits - Integrated course)
  • Module A – Contemporary Political Thought (6 credits)
  • Module B – Decolonial strategies (6 credits)
  • Social Research Methods (6 credits)
  • English as a Global Language (6 credits)

European Policies track (2nd year)

  • Policy Design and Implementation (12 credits - Integrated course)
  • Module A – Sustainable Development Policies in Europe (6 credits)
  • Module B – Project Management and Policy Evaluation (6 credits)
  • European Economic Policy (6 credits)
  • EU-US Relations (6 credits) OR Lobbying the EU: Theory and Practice (6 credits)
  • History of European Integration (6 credits) OR Conflicts in European and Global History (6 credits)

Global Communication Policies track (2nd year)

  • Global Communication Governance (12 credits - Integrated course)
  • Module A – Communication governance and transnational networks (6 credits)
  • Module B – Digital innovation and society (6 credits)

Students are also required to write a final thesis (15 credits), choose from a range of electives (12 credits), take part in workshops or do an internship (6 credits).
