The MaRTe Master program in Prevention and fight against radicalization, terrorism and for integration policies represents a contribution to the internationalization of the educational offer of the University of Bergamo, within the framework of the PRaNet project – Prevention of Radicalisation Network – financed by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research. The project entails the creation of a university network between the University of Bergamo, and two universities from countries belonging to the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), the Université Sétif 2, Algeria, and ADA University of Baku, Azerbaijan, with the objective to deepen knowledge and understanding of the phenomenon of radicalization, to develop social inclusion and de-radicalization policies and to provide for the improvement of integration, through post-university education activities and academic research in the 2019-2021 three-year period.

TRAINING OBJECTIVES AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES:

The program, through a multidisciplinary approach, aims to offer solid political, legal, social and operational skills, in order to better understand the articulated dynamics of the birth, growth and development of terrorist phenomena, the causes that lead an individual to radicalization and the consequent subversive strategies implemented by different groups. The Master also aims to provide specific skills for the development of policies of de-radicalization and social inclusion, which can be implemented at national, intercultural and inter-religious level, as main instruments for combating terrorism, radicalization and violent extremism.


The Master aims to train professionals wishing to work in: local, national and international institutions, governmental organizations, media communication sectors, security sectors, companies, research centers, NGOs operating in hospitality, development and international cooperation.


Educational objectives of the Master program are the deepening of knowledge about radicalization and violent extremism phenomena, as well as about de-radicalization policies, inclusion and social integration policies, in order to make information and solutions elaborated by the sector’s specialists accessible and usable in different contexts:


  • educational-training and social sector, addressed to school administrators, teachers, educators, health professionals, social assistants, cultural mediators, members of civil society associations and NGOs;
  • legal sector, for students attending training, specialization and professional development courses and in particular those of lawyers, magistrates and operators involved in the protection of minors and unaccompanied minors;
  • institutional sector, for public officials, officials of regional employment centers, local authorities, experts and managers of corporate security and above all to police forces and personnel of the armed forces, personnel of the various guarantor authorities, including those for the rights of prisoners.

    The Master is also aimed at researchers, internal security state analysts, psychologists, journalists and representatives of religious communities. The course also aims to offer an opportunity for a professional update in line with the most advanced international standards, and to foster the integration between methodological and analytical tools typical of the social sciences and more strictly technological approaches.

    • central public bodies;
    • international organisations;
    • national and international research centers (public and private);
    • non-governmental and no-profit organizations;
    • the business world, in the role of corporate security officers;
    • the personnel of the Defense and Police Forces Administration.
